About the WNYSLC
In 2001, a group of representatives from colleges and universities and community organizations came together to discuss ways to collaborate and support one another in our efforts in the community, specifically those related to service-learning.
As a Coalition, we define service-learning as an educational experience that goes beyond volunteering. Service-learning connects students to the community by integrating academic curriculum with active participation in service, offering structured opportunities for students to reflect on their experiences, and striving to ensure that the service placements are mutually beneficial to students, the organizations, and the community as a whole.
Since 2001, the coalition has grown--and keeps growing! Members include service-learning administrators, non-profit volunteer administrators, faculty members, and others who are interested in learning more about engaging college students in the community. We meet to share ideas and practices, and we work together to plan collaborative events and projects that are beneficial to the members and the Western New York community.
If you are interested in being involved, please contact us. We'd love to hear from you.
